I have two programmers working with me now on weekly little projects and we were wondering if someone could link us or provide us with any Music Programming advice. We are looking to work with songs and measure intensity, rhythm, and other essences of the song to generate gameplay. One programmer is more focused in AS2, and the other AS3. I figure this is more advanced and therefore should be done with AS3.

Anyone have advice that I can share with them? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Also, new game coming soon. Lil' Einstein's Manhattan Project.
Well, we got a HUGE offer with some strong restrictive terms so If I take it I dunno if you will be able to play it on Newgrounds... or if it will even have my name on it T.T

So your not working on the same project? cos as2 and as3 can't both be in the one game or application. I suggest that the As2 guy learns As3. I'm sure there is some way to detect song intensity and stuff although im not sure how.

Although that song thing is really well done i'm not to sure that it's actually measuring the intensity of the song and acting accordingly. It seemed more like it was scripted to that song...

I made a rhythm game once with AS2 just by streaming the audio and having the note movie clips appear with code on certain frames. I also had four layers, one for each colored note, just to make it easier to tell what to put where. I don't remember how I managed to make long notes.

That's all I know, that probably doesn't help much.
